Fear is a powerful emotion, especially when it comes to cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fear of what a screening test might discover, fear of potential discomfort and fear of the unknown kept Terry Craft from getting a regular cancer screening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He decided to see a doctor after an intense and painful episode of constipation, an appointment he says he should have had 10 years earlier. Craft was 47 years old when he was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy wife actually wanted me to have a colonoscopy when I was in my late 30s because I had a little bout and I said, \u2018No, I’m not doing that,\u2019\u201d says Craft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI didn’t get screened because I was afraid of it. I just didn’t want to know if there was something that might be serious or life-threatening. It was a fear factor for me.\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
